Dealing with paperwork and dealines related Education Major

Firstly, I organize my class assignments in order of when they are due. For instance, this Wednesday, October 29, 2014 I have four classes; listed below are my assignments due.
1.      Structure of Numbers
·         Homework 6.2-6.4
·         Online Quiz Due: October 28
2.      Math Modeling Applications
·         Review Critique Presentations
3.      Science Lab
·         Lab is Due
4.      Developmental Reading
·         Article Critique #3 Due
·         Article Critique #4 Due
·         Chapter 9 Group Presentation
In order to remain on top of my classes, I space out the work load amongst the week. I work on the homework for structure in between taking breaks from writing Article Critique #3 and #4. Once I get bored with math and writing critiques, I work on my group presentation for reading. Working on the presentation for reading helps me to take a break from the serious work (Writing Critiques & Math Homework). Working on the presentation lets me be creative and have fun. Once I complete the Chapter nine presentation, I go back to the serious work and finish the rest of my online homework and Critique #3 and #4. By this time the assignments for Developmental Reading are complete. For structure I complete the five question online quiz before taking a nap. When I wake up from my nap, I review my lab and fill in the missing information that my group and I missed. For Math Modeling Applications I go over Critique and brainstorm new ways to improve my presentation. All of these tasks and assignments are completed Monday, October 27, 2014 prior to Wednesday October 29, 2014. Tuesday October 28, 2014 is a day to make sure I have all assignments printed, whole punched, and in my binder. I have an opportunity to edit the critiques one last time as well.

Analysis of Education Courses

Four Years of Discipline

My current focus at Prairie View A & M University is Education 4-8, Generalist. Overall my degree plan has an assortment of classes. I have completed my pre-requisite courses on the front of my degree plan. For example, my English, arts, history, and government are all completed. Currently I am in the process of trying to finish the back of my degree plan, which consists of Interdisciplinary courses and CUIN courses. For example, reading, personal health, and CUIN courses are the courses that I have left to finish.

The CUIN courses are the courses that are geared towards student teaching in the classroom. In order to be eligible to take CUIN courses, the student must be accepted into the Education Program at Prairie View A & M University. I was accepted into the education program summer of 2014. I will begin my CUIN courses fall 2015. I am finishing up my last couple interdisciplinary courses prior to beginning CUIN courses.

Overall, the degree takes time just like any other degree. A student must plan and have a goal of projected graduation. By having a goal, it keeps the student focused on what is important, graduating and teaching.

Review of PVAMU Teachers, Staff & Courses

Reviews of Teachers and Staff in Your Department

Currently I am in the education department at Prairie View A & M University. Thus far, I have had the pleasure of having wonderful Education Major focused teachers. For example, Dr. Bliss, a reading professor, is one of the most caring teachers I have had in reading. Dr. Bliss makes a person want to read, and participate in class. She has different projects that help students focus on their educational concentration (EC-6, 4-8, Generalist, and SPED). Another professor that I am currently enjoying is Mrs. Wells, a reading professor at Prairie View A & M University. She really connects the real world of teaching, so we gain more knowledge prior to stepping into the real world (elementary school & middle school environment).

Review of Courses Required by Major

As previously stated, my focus is 4-8, Generalist. The courses required by my major are an assortment of courses. In order to be considered a generalist, one must be well rounded in every subject possible: math, science, English, and History. Along with other courses to maintain well roundness, my course load gives me a sample of every subject I could possibly teach.

What I Have Learned and What I Wish to Improve

Getting Organized
What I Have Learned
This semester has been a very challenging one. I have been challenged the most in my mathematics classes. Mathematics has not been a tough subject for me to grasp the concept, but when you mix upper level mathematics or (four thousand levels) with a lower level or (three thousand levels) it can be difficult to get the two subject matters confused or mixed up, especially with them being so similar. Overall, I have learned to remain calm and patient with these challenging courses. Keeping my composure, and not becoming overwhelmed with assignments, has taught me I can overcome anything.

What I Wish to Improve

I wish to learn more about organizing my classes. The binder method with dividers does not work for me at all. I tried it, and I never keep up with the binder or keep it organized. Also, I need to figure a way to organize my syllabi at the beginning of the semester. As the semester becomes more hectic, it becomes more difficulty to constantly look at each syllabus every day.

Different Social Media Techniques Explored

Social Media Techniques

Twitter
The social media techniques that I have explored thus far are Twitter and Blogger. The twitter project that is required for my Professional Writing course is interesting. I have learned that twitter is not necessarily used for finding out the latest drama. Twitter can be used in a more social networking kind of way. By following important news anchors and future graduate schools, I am able to remain informed of the new updates and deadlines coming up. Of course Twitter should not be my only resource for finding out information. But, being taught how to use Twitter as a professional feature with all of the required tweets , follows, and URL posts has made me view Twitter as a tool not just a social media.

Blogger
Blogger is the next social media tool that I am currently exploring. Thus far, it is a pretty neat way to get your thoughts out in a professional manner. Blogging helps to remove those cluttering thoughts from the mind, and put those thoughts down on a Blog.
